Trauma is any distressing experience which overwhelms the individual experiencing it and exceeds their ability to cope. Whether an isolated event or an ongoing challenge, most people have experienced trauma in some form during their life. Trauma can have a significant impact on relationships, mental health, and work, and can cause a range of emotions from numbness to anger to depression.

Symptoms of trauma can be unpredictable and cause severe disruption in day-to-day life. However, the effects of trauma are often overlooked and can be minimized by societal expectations to carry on despite the ongoing emotional impacts of trauma.
